Frankfurt / Main (dpa) - At first hardly anything leaked out.

In view of the turbulent months at the German Football Association, that was a step forward.

In the presidium meeting on Friday evening, which lasted several hours, the fighters Fritz Keller and Friedrich Curtius decided to make one last attempt to get together.

Is the power struggle over?

Questionable - the coming weeks will be a difficult test for the DFB President and Secretary General.

Neither of the two top officials announced his resignation, which would not have been a surprise.

But both of them are weakened.

Curtius, because the German Football League, which Keller supports, withdrew his confidence on Thursday.

The 44-year-old should no longer take part in meetings of the DFL committees, it said in a letter to Keller - whether the vote of no confidence will now be withdrawn is open.

And Keller, because his alleged plans had been pushed through for weeks to ask Curtius to leave office.

The support for the General Secretary seems to be still present in the Presidium.

Keller and Curtius jointly announced that they would try “immediately” and “for the last time” to “discuss and define rules and roles for future joint professional cooperation”.

For this purpose, the DFB as an association actually has statutes in which areas of responsibility are clearly defined.

The president, for example, no longer has unrestricted authority to issue guidelines.

A lesson from the years before Keller with DFB presidents who were involved everywhere.

As General Secretary, Curtius is responsible for the operational business and sits with four directors in the DFB management, including Oliver Bierhoff, who is responsible for the national teams.

At the end of the month, according to the “Bild am Sonntag”, the investigation report of the external investigators of the consulting company Esecon on the summer fairy tale scandal will be presented.

In an interview with the dpa last year, Keller said that there would be “something new” and that the explanation was “very close”.

The general inventory initiated by the DFB President is also said to have been one of the issues in the power struggle.

Likewise the fact that internals had leaked out several times.

Keller was criticized for an alleged internal dodging course in the discussion about national coach Joachim Löw.

It will take some time for the national team to use football to distract from the association's trouble spots.

Löw and the DFB team will play their first competitive game in World Cup qualification against Iceland on March 25th.

As of now, both Keller and Curtius could sit in the stands in an official capacity in just over two months.
