Braunschweig (dpa / lni) - After the allegedly politically motivated arson attacks on the reception authorities in Braunschweig and Hanover, the search for the perpetrators has so far been unsuccessful.

"Since the witnesses were called at the beginning of the week, no decisive information has been received," said the State Criminal Police Office (LKA) on request.

According to the Interior Ministry, left-wing extremists are said to have set fire to ten vehicles and a trailer on the premises of the authority in Braunschweig a week ago.

According to the ministry, this is indicated by a letter of assurance on the Internet.

The cars burned out completely, people were not injured.

According to initial estimates, the damage amounted to a good half a million euros.

According to the ministry, incendiary devices were also found on the building of the state registration authority in Hanover-Langenhagen;

but these did not ignite.

According to the LKA, the incendiary devices consisted, among other things, of several filled 20-liter petrol cans.

Since these are significantly larger in contrast to the 5 liter canisters that are usually sold, the investigators ask whether perpetrators may have been noticed during the purchase.

The state reception authority organizes the reception and accommodation of asylum seekers in Lower Saxony and supports the municipal immigration authorities with repatriations.

In view of the extent of the attacks, Interior Minister Boris Pistorius (SPD) was shocked and shaken.

The ministry is currently concerned with whether there is a possibility of making it more difficult for left-wing extremist groups to act, it said.

The "Hannoversche Allgemeine Zeitung" had previously reported (Saturday) that Pistorius wanted to examine a ban on left-wing extremist anti-fascist groups in the country.
