Goslar / Holzminden (dpa / lni) - Police and law enforcement officers in the Harz are preparing for a possible rush of visitors on Saturday and Sunday with a large contingent.

After the experiences from last weekend, the district of Goslar said that the mask requirement on the toboggan slopes has been improved.

The slopes on which this obligation applies are now specifically listed in the general decree.

The officials are supposed to check compliance with the rules there and have illegal parkers towed along the country roads.

Because another winter weekend is imminent: it will stay frosty and dry, said a meteorologist from the German Weather Service.

In the heights there is a snow cover of up to 30 centimeters, and it is white as far as the valleys.

The rush of visitors and sometimes chaotic conditions on the streets had recently caused a stir in the Harz Mountains.

Last weekend, too, many people traveled to the snow-covered low mountain range, but according to the police, the visitors were better distributed in the region.

Only in a few cases did law enforcement and police tow away cars or block access roads.

Before this weekend, Goslar's District Administrator Thomas Brych again appealed to refrain from visits: "Excursions for tourist purposes have no place in the current situation and are also not in line with the existing lockdown."

The Harz National Park also stopped tracing the cross-country trails in order not to attract additional people.

In the Holzminden district, the largest and most heavily visited toboggan slopes remain closed due to the corona pandemic.

The district had extended the ban until the end of January because of the persistently cold weather.

Tobogganing is prohibited, but cross-country skiing or pulling a sledge behind is permitted.
