The Israeli occupation police arrested 4 Palestinians from the interior, following a demonstration in the city of Umm al-Fahm, protesting the escalation of violence, the spread of crime and the Israeli government's complacency in pursuing criminal gangs.

Hundreds participated in the demonstration, which is the third in a week, as last Sunday’s demonstration saw the arrest of 3 people.

Witnesses said that the demonstrators raised Palestinian flags and chanted against the failure of the Israeli police to stop the crime, before they beat some of them.

The demonstrators accused the Israeli police of partnering with and covering up these gangs, as the number of victims of these gangs in Arab towns within the Green Line reached 113 dead during the past year.

The Israeli Broadcasting Corporation said that the demonstration took place after the shooting of the former mayor of Umm al-Fahm Sulayman Ighbaria, and that crime continued to spread in the Arab sector.

In turn, the Israeli police said in a statement that members of the riot police unit and members of the border police dispersed the demonstration and arrested 4 suspects of disturbing the order.
