Bad Tölz (dpa / lby) - The Bavarian mountain rescue service is currently registering significantly fewer accidents than in times with skiing and running lifts.

On a peak day in February 2019, the rescuers would have had to go out around 160 times, currently the number of operations on a beautiful day is in the low double-digit range, said mountain rescue spokesman Roland Ampenberger.

At certain hotspots, the helpers would have had to go out several times within a day - "but that is no comparison to a ski weekend with piste operations," said Ampenberger.

Nevertheless, the mountain rescue service is always busy - wherever people are on the move, there are also accidents.

There were no more tobogganing accidents than usual. However, they came more into focus because the classic skiing accidents did not occur.

In addition, there are currently more serious injuries when falling on the hard, frozen ground.

"The crumple zone of fresh snow is missing."

Since all alternatives from climbing halls, fitness studios, tennis halls and club sports to going to the cinema are missing, people are drawn to the outdoors.

"It's the only thing that remains: that everyone goes out," said Ampenberger.

People are “out and about on the mountain with everything they have”: with sledges and skis, mountain bikes, ice skates or simply on foot.

“As far as we are concerned, there have been no unusual obstacles to further care - that is, when transporting it to the hospital by ambulance,” said Ampenberger.

He also called for prudence and caution when going on excursions near the place of residence.

That helps to avoid accidents.
