Berlin (dpa) - RB Leipzig has missed the temporary jump to the top of the Bundesliga.

After the 2: 2 (1: 2) in the top game at VfL Wolfsburg, the Saxons remain in second place behind the league leaders FC Bayern.

The Munich team can extend their lead on Sunday (3:30 p.m.) against SC Freiburg.

Borussia Dortmund made a surprising slip up against relegation candidate FSV Mainz 05 and did not get beyond 1: 1 (0: 0).

Two games ended goalless on a rather poor football Saturday: The 0-0 win in a duel between two ailing clubs was neither for 1. FC Köln nor for Hertha BSC the hoped-for sense of achievement.

There were also no goals in the game between TSG 1899 Hoffenheim and Arminia Bielefeld.

Werder Bremen prevailed 2-0 (0-0) against FC Augsburg.

After their early lead by Nordi Mukiele, the Leipzig team initially fell significantly in the fourth minute.

The Wolfsburg used that to the goals of Wout Weghorst (22nd) and Renato Steffen (35th).

Defender Willi Orban managed to equalize at least for RB (54th) in the second half.

As a result, coach Julian Nagelsmann's team was unable to take over the lead, at least temporarily, as they did in the 3-1 draw against Dortmund the previous week.

BVB initially cheered in vain against Mainz when the alleged 1-0 by Erling Haaland did not count due to an offside position.

Thomas Meunier (73rd) saved Dortmund at least from embarrassment and after the Mainz leadership by Levin Öztunali (59th) made the balance.

Marco Reus missed the possible victory for Borussia with a missed penalty (76th).

Before the match between Cologne and Hertha, the focus was on the two coaches.

The goalless draw helps neither FC coach Markus Gisdol, who remains with his team on the relegation rank, nor Berlin's Bruno Labbadia elementary.

The situation remains tense for Hoffenheim's coach Sebastian Hoeneß shortly before the relegation zone.

In Bremen, Theodor Gebre Selassie (84th) and Felix Agu (87th) scored the first Werder win of the year with their late hits.
