In Côte d'Ivoire, Senator Mariam Dao Gabala was chosen by FIFA to chair the normalization committee of the Ivorian Football Federation (FIF).

The international football organization placed the FIF under supervision on December 24 because the governing bodies of Ivorian football failed, according to it, to organize a compliant election to renew its executive.

And to take control of this federation, Fifa has chosen a complete neophyte in the world of football.

She also worked for 20 years for Oikocredit, the fundraising institution founded by the World Council of Churches.

She was involved in the development of cooperatives or social enterprises in the sub-region.

From civil society

Very involved in civil society in West Africa, it is in this capacity that she was appointed - along with 32 other people - senator by Alassane Ouattara in 2019. Mariam Dao Gabala acknowledges that she only knows about football what he does. tell his 5 sons.

Not being in the middle is an asset, it allows you to take a step back and to be more objective

" repeats the one who says to be the first surprise of her appointment, Thursday, January 14.

Moreover, her colleagues on the committee, former minister Martin Bléou and lawyer Simon Abé Yao, are no more specialists than she is in football.

End the crisis

Their mission, which she describes as "

difficult but not impossible

", is more technical and legal than sporting.

It will consist of managing the day-to-day affairs of the FIF, reviewing the regulations, statutes and the electoral code, and organizing the election of the new executive committee.

Clearly put a definitive end to a crisis that has lasted for almost a year.
