Selb (dpa / lby) - The federal police have caught three people smugglers from the Republic of Moldova.

The federal police announced on Saturday that they had brought 20 men and three women "in a confined space" to Bavaria with three small vans.

All were Moldovan nationals.

The officials checked the vans on Autobahn 93 in the Selb and Rehau area as part of a border manhunt on Friday.

In addition to lots of work clothes, forged documents in the form of a Romanian identity card and a driver's license were found.

According to investigations by the officials, the 20 men and three women were smuggled in via Poland and the Czech Republic to pursue unauthorized work in various places in Germany.

According to information from the investigators, two vehicle occupants were known to the police - among other things for theft. All 26 people were transferred to the Czech Republic. The three 20-, 33- and 38-year-old Moldovan smugglers now have to answer for smuggling in foreigners.
