- What we see is that the speeds on the road network are increasing and so are the number of cars and vehicles, says Peter Friberg, regional coordinator for traffic at the police in the southern region.

Sobriety and speed

He also mentions the increase in the transport industry, the number of bicycles and the fact that more people are out and walking along the roads as reasons for the number of accidents.

Most often it is men who die in traffic and in the 37 fatal accidents in Skåne last year, mainly motorcycles and cars were involved.

- There are many factors that can come into play.

What we work with from the police's side is sobriety and speed, says Peter Friberg.

Other actors who work to make traffic safer are the Swedish Transport Administration and the municipalities, which look after the traffic environment, various road solutions and speed limits.

The analysis is not complete

Fatal accidents often occur due to various individual factors such as how experienced a driver is and if you are stressed.

The police in the southern region have not had time to make a deeper analysis of why the increase in fatal traffic accidents is increasing in Skåne, contrary to the statistics in general.

- First and foremost, we will now look at the figures and analyze why the increase is taking place in Skåne.

Above all, we see a reduction in the number of fatal accidents in the country and in the rest of the southern region, but again, in Skåne it stands out, says Peter Friberg.
