Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - With an expanded test obligation for employees of care facilities as well as an obligation to test visitors and external third parties, Baden-Württemberg is strengthening the protection against infection in old people's and nursing homes.

A corresponding regulation was included in the corona regulation decided by the cabinet and announced on Saturday and should take effect from Monday, said Health Minister Manne Lucha (Greens) on Saturday in Stuttgart.

“The pandemic has the country firmly under control.

That is why we must continue to protect older people as best as possible, since infections are more severe and often fatal for them, ”Lucha explained.

Retirement and nursing homes are focal points of the corona pandemic.

According to the minister, 140 outbreaks from nursing homes with 2545 Sars-CoV-2 infections, including 190 deaths, have been reported to the State Health Office since mid-December 2020 (calendar week 51).

According to Lucha, the regulation that visitors and external nursing homes are only allowed to visit with a negative PoC antigen test and a mask (FFP2 / KN95) remains in place.

What is new, however, is that the care facilities have to offer testing to visitors and external persons.

Facilities that are unable to procure in the short term can obtain PoC antigen tests from the state's emergency reserve for urgent needs.

The expansion of the testing requirement for staff is also new.

The employees of inpatient facilities for people with care and support needs would have to be tested three times a week instead of twice.

There are exceptions, for example for emergency doctors.
