The European agency PRAC, which monitors drug side effects, is investigating the deaths of over-13s in Norway, who died shortly after being vaccinated with Pfizer / BioNTech's corona vaccine.

A spokesperson for the Medicines Evaluation Board (MEB) in Utrecht confirms this in conversation with

the Volkskrant on

The Norwegian drug agency reported in a press release earlier in the day that normal side effects, such as nausea and fever, were potentially fatal to the frail elderly.

A spokesman emphasizes in the newspaper that it concerned people with an already "very fragile" health.

In Norway, the elderly and people with underlying diseases are now being vaccinated.

Since more than 400 people die in nursing homes in the country every week, the expectation was that these may also include newly vaccinated patients.

The Norwegian authorities cannot yet rule out a direct link with the corona vaccine.

It is possible that the vaccine contributed to further deterioration in the health of sick elderly people, according to the Norwegian medicine agency.

For that reason, the Norwegian health authorities have updated the package insert this week.

Ten other deaths are still under investigation.

Next week, the Netherlands will also start vaccinating the elderly in nursing homes with the corona vaccine from Pfizer / BioNTech.

Later the Moderna vaccine is also used for this.

In our country, there is still no exception for patients in the oldest target group, a MEB spokesperson reported in

de Volkskrant

The Norwegian deaths are known to the MEB and are now being investigated at European level, at the PRAC.

This could possibly lead to an adjustment of the package leaflet.

One hundred reports of side effects

Within a week, the Dutch Adverse Reaction Center Lareb received about 100 reports about the corona vaccine from Pfizer and BioNTech.

There are no known suspected deaths from vaccination.

Since last Wednesday, healthcare workers have been vaccinated against COVID-19.

Most reports were of milder side effects, such as injection site reaction, fatigue, muscle pain and headache.

Those side effects weren't surprising either.

The Pfizer vaccine is not authorized for children under the age of 16 years, because the efficacy and safety of this vaccine has not yet been sufficiently studied in this group.

Some people are advised to check with a doctor before getting vaccinated.

According to the MEB, people who are allergic to one of the components are also not advised to be vaccinated with this vaccine.
