Daniel Günther (CDU) has clearly criticized the candidate Friedrich Merz, who was inferior in the election of the new CDU chairman.

"It is wrong that the unsuccessful applicant for a party office now demands a state office," said the Prime Minister of Schleswig-Holstein in the "Lübecker Nachrichten".

After his defeat in the vote on Saturday, Merz had offered the newly elected CDU boss Armin Laschet to join the cabinet as Federal Minister of Economics.

A government spokesman immediately announced that Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) was not planning any reshuffle of the cabinet.

Laschet also rejected the advance.

Günther was relieved about the outcome of the federal party conference.

He also trusted Laschet to take over the office of Chancellor.

But now he will first show that he is a good party leader, said Schleswig-Holstein's head of government.

Günther also criticized Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn (CDU), who had advertised Laschet during a question and answer session before the vote on the future party chairman.

Spahn committed "a foul on Laschet".

That led to great annoyance.

"If he wanted to help Laschet with it, it backfired." Günther attributed Spahn's moderate result in the election to the CDU deputy chairman to his advance.
