The investigation into the storming of the Capitol in Washington by supporters of Donald Trump revealed an unprecedented failure of the security forces.

The incumbent Vice President Mike Pence found himself in greater danger than previously known during the uprising on January 6th.

Pence was only evacuated from the Senate 14 minutes after Capitol Police reported the violent intruders had entered the area.

Trump's deputy presided over the certification of the presidential election there at the time.

The session was suspended and continued into the night.

President Trump, who left office on Wednesday, and his fans are still denying their defeat today.

Several police officers apparently collaborated with the mob previously instigated by Trump.

Two men who had entered the Capitol with the crowd testified to the FBI that a Capitol policeman shook their hands in the parliament building and said, "This is your house now!"

A Capitol Police officer was killed in the riot and others were injured, as were over 50 Washington police officers.

It took nearly four hours to secure the seat of Congress.

Investigations into links between Republican MPs and the rioters are ongoing.

The conspiracy theorist and Trump fan Jacob Chansley, 33, who became known as the “shaman”, had managed to climb the Senate podium.

Here he left a threatening message for pence.

The Secret Service escorted Pence and his wife into hiding in the Capitol complex during the storming.

Apparently just seconds later, the pro-Trump mob would have come within Pence's range of vision.

A group chanted, "Hang up Mike Pence!"

"A two meter high fence was erected around the Capitol"

The situation remains tense following the storm on the Washington Capitol.

It is feared that there may be renewed protests at the inauguration.

Soldiers and barriers determine the picture, reports US correspondent Steffen Schwarzkopf.

In an internal intelligence report, the Capitol police warned against violence three days before the storm and suspected that Trump's supporters could target Congress.

The memo was apparently withheld from other security agencies such as the FBI, writes the Washington Post.

The FBI in the state of Virginia had specifically warned against extremists traveling to Washington who threatened violence and "war".

Shortly before Joe Biden was sworn in as president, the future of the impeachment proceedings against Trump is still uncertain.

The trial is unlikely to begin before Trump leaves office on Wednesday.

The House of Representatives, which Trump had indicted on Wednesday, has not yet submitted the relevant articles to the Senate.

Only from this point in time would the Senate have to act.

The Democrats will provide the majority leader in the Senate from next week.

Biden criticized Trump's role on January 6, but is reluctant to impeachment.

If he has his way, the Senate would initially focus on confirming the new ministers and top officials.

In addition, Biden wants to quickly get a 1.9 trillion corona aid package through Congress.
