Hamburg (dpa) - actor Bjarne Mädel (52, "The crime scene cleaner") had sleepless nights because of his directorial debut in his own words.

«As a director you are responsible for everything.

From A to Z », said girl of the German press agency in Hamburg.

On the one hand, this work is incredibly delightful and satisfying if it works.

“On the other hand, it's so scary.

When you lie awake at night and have a panic attack because you don't know what to do if it is still raining tomorrow, ”says Mädel.

In the spring of 2020, Mädel shot the crime thriller “Sörensen hat fear” in northern Germany, in the Frisian town of Varel and the surrounding area.

He took on the main role of the chief inspector himself. Matthias Brandt, Peter Kurth, Katrin Wichmann and Anne Ratte-Polle play alongside him.

The dark and laconic North Sea thriller runs on Wednesday in the first.

If he booked an actor for ten hours and it rained eight hours of that time, it was already enormous stress for the director, said girl.

"Then I just know: If I can't get this scene in the box today, I'll get Peter Kurth the next time in seven months," said the 52-year-old.

For his debut, Mädel hadn't actually planned a crime novel, said the Hamburg native.

“That fell at my feet because I am very close to Sven Stricker through the radio plays and we are friends.

Otherwise I would have waited until I found something crazier than fabric. "

Stricker wrote the radio play, the novel and now the screenplay for the film.

Mädel rules out the fact that he will only work as a director in the future: “I don't want to change sides permanently now.

It has to fit somehow. "

“Sörensen hat Angst” made him even more aware of the enormous amount of time a director expended.

For example, he spoke to the team for the first time about this idea two years earlier, spent over a year working on the script and spent a long time looking for the right locations.

And after the shoot it was the turn of the post-production.

"My respect for this profession has definitely grown again."
