It's a crazy challenge and a first for him.

The mountain bike trial champion, Aurélien Fontenoy, 31, from Isère, will try to climb the 33 floors of the Trinity tower located in La Défense (Hauts-de-Seine) this Sunday.

That is 140 meters high and 768 steps.

“I did a bit of stairs on a mountain bike but it's really the first kid's ride that I'm going up,” he blurted out before this adventure, which is not new.

“It's a project that has been stuck in my head for a long time.

The process began six months ago.

Initially, I wanted to try to set a record on the Eiffel Tower, but it was complicated with the current conditions, so I fell back on the Montparnasse Tower, but that was also blocked.

And the Trinity Tower accepted a month ago ”, he rejoices with

20 Minutes.

Three times junior world champion, two times European junior champion and three times senior vice-champion of the mountain bike world, Aurélien Fontenoy says he is ready for this new stage in his career.

A 30 to 45-minute climb without putting your foot on the ground

"The big challenge for me is the endurance and the mental because I have never done such a height", he admits.

He set himself to climb these 33 floors, without slipping, without pausing, or putting his foot on the ground.

Before Sunday's climb, the champion will come to the tower on Saturday to do scouting.

Five people will be by his side.

“Going up a floor for me is not very complicated.

But going up 33, it gets harder.

Especially since it is in a stairwell and the last five floors are outside and rain is forecast.

We will have to remain lucid ”.

His goal: to climb the tower between 30 and 45 minutes.

But Aurélien Fontenoy, does not take up this challenge only for him.

Ambassador for the ABUS brand, specializing in equipment for the safety of two-wheelers, Aurélien Fontenoy will also go the extra mile for the Rêves association, which helps seriously ill children to make their dreams come true.

“We will try to raise funds.

Also, I am preparing a surprise for a child, Noa, who is part of the association and who is a fan of cycling and of my performances, ”he says.
