The new train operator for Norrland's night trains, Vy, is actually the same company as the old Tågkompaniet.

Vy Tåg is a Swedish company that is part of the Norwegian transport group Vygruppen, which in turn is owned by the Norwegian state.

Vy uses the same carriages as the previous train operator SJ and the carriages are rented from the Swedish Transport Administration.

When Vy took over the night train traffic, it was promised that the change would not mean any change for the passengers, but some tickets suddenly became more than twice as expensive.

- Ticket prices are adapted to when booking.

The high prices may be due to a late booking, says Stefan Linder.

Over SEK 5,000 round trip Luleå-Stockholm

According to the business manager, Vy has only made an annual adjustment of prices of a maximum of four percent.

But when it comes to riding in your own cabin in second class, this is not true.

Retirement tickets in their own second-class sleeping compartment have become more than twice as expensive as before.

When SVT checked the prices, the round trip Luleå-Stockholm could cost well over SEK 5,000.

This applies to pensioner tickets in their own sleeping compartment, ie a so-called corona-safe travel that many pensioners choose today due to the pandemic.

Previously, the same trip cost just over SEK 2,000.

Due to the risk of infection, many travelers do not want to book the pram compartment seats, where Vy still allows six passengers per compartment.
