In accordance with Donald Trump's wish to put an end to "endless wars", Pentagon chief Christopher Miller announced on Friday that the military personnel of the United States now amounted to 2,500 in Afghanistan as well as in Iraq.

Pentagon chief Christopher Miller announced on Friday that the United States' military strength now stands at 2,500 in Afghanistan and Iraq, in accordance with incumbent President Donald Trump's wish to end "endless wars".

"Today, the United States is closer than ever to ending nearly 20 years of war," the acting defense minister said in a statement.

"The downsizing in Iraq reflects the increased capabilities of the Iraqi army," he added.
