According to media reports, the outgoing US President Donald Trump wants to leave the capital Washington on the morning of his successor Joe Biden's inauguration.

Several US media outlets, including the Washington Post and Fox News, reported on Friday, citing government circles, that Trump wanted to leave the White House and the capital for Florida on Wednesday morning - shortly before Biden is to be sworn in at the Capitol.

Trump announced a few days ago on Twitter that he would not attend the inauguration ceremony for his successor Biden.

Trump's presence at the ceremony would be political, but it has no legal effect.

Biden is sworn in as the new president even without his predecessor.

The Washington Post wrote that Trump was instead planning a farewell ceremony for himself on the military airfield outside Washington, from where the government aircraft Air Force One takes off.

That has never happened in this form, it said in the report.

Fox News reported that Trump also wants to take several White House employees to Florida, where he has his club resort Mar-a-Lago.
