US Vice President Mike Pence pledged to ensure the security of President-elect Joe Biden's inauguration, scheduled for next Wednesday, while federal prosecutors revealed that a number of those who stormed Congress were intending to capture and kill members. On the other hand, the pace of deportation of President Donald Trump's personal items from the White House intensified. .

Yesterday, Thursday, the US Vice President received a briefing from security officials about preparations to secure the inauguration of President-elect Joe Biden on Wednesday, and Pence pledged to respect the history of the United States and ensure a safe transfer of power to the president-elect.

"Americans can be confident that we will ensure a safe inauguration ceremony, and that President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris will take the oath as the new President and Vice President of the United States, in a manner that is consistent with our history and customs, and that honors the American people and the United States," Biden said.

Security officials said in a briefing to Pence that cooperation between the security services is underway in order not to repeat what happened on January 6, in reference to the storming of Congress.

National Guard

After the end of the security briefing, Pence went to the vicinity of the Congress building, where the National Guard members deployed there since the incident of President Trump's supporters storming the Congress building, during the confirmation session on Joe Biden's victory in the presidential elections on 6 this month.

Unusually, National Guard personnel deployed in the vicinity of the Congress building were provided with weapons.

The National Guard Command, which is affiliated with the Ministry of Defense, has deployed about 7,000 of its personnel in Washington, DC, to support the security forces.

The security authorities had expected that the number of National Guard forces in Washington would reach about 20 thousand by the 20th of this month, in order to protect the inauguration ceremony and vital facilities.

In a related context, the American newspaper Politico, late yesterday evening, quoted two informed sources as saying that training for Biden's inauguration ceremony was postponed until Monday.

Due to security concerns, the newspaper report also indicated that Biden's team had postponed the training, which was scheduled for next Sunday.

And unlike the usual inauguration of American presidents, which attract tens of thousands of Americans, Biden's inauguration will be limited in terms of scheduled activities and public attendance, due to the restrictions imposed by the spread of the Corona virus pandemic.

Typically 200,000 tickets are distributed to members of Congress for distribution to their states and attendance ranges from street pass in review, speech, oath, etc.

For example, the pass in review show has hundreds of thousands of attendees, but I think according to what is expected that many paragraphs will be online for the sake of social distancing.

Break into Congress

On the other hand, Reuters reported, according to US federal prosecutors, that a number of those who attacked the Congress building, to object to Biden’s confirmation of Biden’s victory in the presidential elections, were intending to arrest and kill members of Congress.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) showed a list of the siege and storming of the Congress building in a memo written by attorneys for the Arizona Department of Justice.

In a warrant submitted to the judiciary, the US federal prosecutor asked for an order to detain Jacob Chansley, an Arizona resident and conspiracy theorist whose image has been widely circulated, with fur hanging on his head and two horns on his head standing on Vice President Mike Pence's desk in Senate.

"Strong evidence, including the words and actions of Chansley himself on the Capitol (Congress), supports the notion that the rioters' intent was to capture and assassinate elected officials of the United States government," the prosecution memo said.

Chancley is due to appear in federal court on Friday.

Reuters added that the Justice Department has filed more than 80 criminal cases related to the violence witnessed by Congress, as supporters of Trump stormed the building, which is described as the symbol of American democracy, looted offices, and attacked the police, and the storming of Congress left many dead and wounded in an unprecedented event.

FBI Director Christopher Ray said in yesterday's briefing to Mike Pence that the office has arrested more than 100 people in connection with the congressional storming and is now looking for individuals who may threaten the inauguration of the president-elect.

In a related context, "The Hill" reported that Democratic lawmakers warned Congressional police, a week before storming the building, about the possibility of thousands of President Trump's followers attacking the building, trying to kill half of the members, and endangering Vice President Pence's life to prevent Certify Joe Biden's victory.

Trump's purposes

On the other hand, the Al-Jazeera correspondent in Washington reported that the White House has intensified the pace of deportation of personal belongings of President Trump, his family and employees residing in it, after Congress approved the election results.

This is part of the usual preparations to prepare the US presidential residence for the new president, his family and his administration by January 20.

And Bloomberg reported that Trump is planning to travel to his resort in Florida on the morning of Biden's inauguration, and added, citing close sources, that a number of White House employees are expected to work with Trump after he leaves power and with his son-in-law and senior adviser Jared Kushner.

The agency added that the US State Department invited the President-elect and his wife, Jill, to stay overnight in the "Blair House", the historic house near the White House, the night before his inauguration, a presidential tradition, and Bloomberg indicated that President Biden accepted the invitation.
