Bad Füssing (dpa / lby) - A suspected smuggler fled a border control at full throttle and caused an accident with seven occupants in the car.

Nobody was injured in the incident, as the Federal Police Inspection Passau announced on Friday.

The car was noticed on Thursday at the border crossing in Bad Füssing, Lower Bavaria (Passau district).

The officials wanted to check the car, but the 27-year-old driver stepped on the pedal and fled at more than 170 kilometers per hour on the state road towards Kirchham (Passau district).

The car came off the lane and the alleged smuggler could be arrested.

The Iraqi identified himself with an Austrian asylum procedure card and stated that the reason for the daring action was that he did not want to return to Austria.

Seven other Syrian men between the ages of 20 and 52 were sitting in the vehicle who could not identify themselves.

The driver is being investigated because of the smuggling of foreigners with serious health risks and illegal entry.

Presumably he will have to be in custody until the main hearing.

The smuggled men received reports of unauthorized entry.

They were returned to Austria.
