Markus Malkén has for ten years worked as a youth supporter and leisure leader in various municipalities.

Now he works in Nyköping and believes that the activities in the municipality should rather be called open houses, as there are neither trained staff nor any governing document in place.

The criticism of the leisure center activities is not new.

In 2016, the culture and leisure committee in Nyköping conducted an internal investigation.

It showed, among other things, that the leisure centers in the municipality had few visitors, untrained staff and that they did not succeed in attracting as many girls as boys.

The inquiry found that it was generally doubtful whether a sufficient quality existed.

Improvements

Now four years have passed.

The municipality has made certain changes since the investigation.

Two of the ten leisure centers in Nyköping are currently run by the municipality and there are now requirements for the associations that run leisure centers, with financial support from the municipality, to submit an action plan annually.

The municipality also has plans to create an activity center for young people, the plans have been on the agenda since the investigation in 2016. The idea is to open in Västra School's premises.

Gender distribution

When it comes to the distribution between girls and boys on the leisure centers, a big difference can still be seen.

In 2019, the annual survey was sent out to eight leisure centers in the municipality, six of which chose to participate.

The answers showed that 32.4 percent of the visitors during the year were girls and 65.7 percent boys.

Two percent did not want to define gender.

That there are few girls who visit the leisure centers is confirmed by young people in Brandkärr that SVT has been in contact with.

They also believe that the leisure centers that are located there are not adapted for young people and that it is often adults who stay there.

In an interview, Gunilla Andersson (S), vice chair of the culture and leisure committee, answers that changes are underway.

Among other things, the municipality plans to create an activity center for young people in Västra School's premises.

Maybe it's time to actually get help and advice from Oxelösund's leisure center, which does an incredible amount for its young people.

They have a lot of visitors and many good activities.

Municipal assignment.

The problem does not seem to be that the leisure centers are run by associations.

The problem looks more like the municipality has not formulated an assignment, goals seem to be missing and follow-up as well.

It is NOT a leisure center with meaningful activities.

There will be ping-pong / billiard tournaments, "snickis", "syis", girls 'group, boys' group, lectures, dance night, go and swim trips, twin town exchange trips.

They should only be under municipal auspices with trained leisure leaders and an upper age limit of 18 years.

Right now there are no leisure centers, it is an adult kindergarten for criminal men.

There are many drags and noisy types hanging there.

Drugs are sold openly, which is not good.

Then there is not much to do there except hang out and talk.

Although we have a dance group.

I live in a city in central Sweden.

Gunilla Andersson

(vice chair of the culture and leisure committee / editor's note)

- it is about political reluctance and lack of insights.

The report in 2016 was about what we can harvest now in Nyköping.

Two young people who were murdered in 2020. Invest money in those who try, Skol-if, UngKraft perishes by the political reluctance to invest money in those who at least try to work with young people.

Do it now!

Young people need more secure adults now than ever before, especially in Nyköping.

Find the leisure center that has more girls in the business than boys!

All leisure centers have the problem that girls do not exist.

Girls get less space when the boys take up space.

Most farms have special projects in their business plans to get more girls to take a seat.

But find a leisure center that has more girls than boys who visit the farm.

There were functioning leisure centers in Nyköping.

In Herrhagen there was one where I worked.

The municipality chose to outsource all the leisure centers to associations and we were laid off / relocated.

We told him that this was going to happen and now we are there ..... what if someone listened!
