Ravensburg (dpa / lsw) - The climate activists who occupied a tree in Ravensburg are allowed to stay for the time being.

The city agreed on this with the young people.

"In the next few days there will be talks in which the activists will talk about legally permissible forms of gatherings and demonstrations," said a city spokesman on Friday.

Until then, the camp that was built on the tree will not be cleared.

Another tree occupation will not be possible for safety reasons, the spokesman continued.

For more than two weeks, young climate activists occupied another tree in the city.

At the end of December, a special police unit took a 17-year-old out of the tree and ended the occupation.

Activists then climbed another tree.

The police and the young people had initially agreed on a "peace obligation" until January 10, which was extended.

The tree squatters had undertaken not to put up any posters or the like because the tree protruded over a pedestrian path.

With the protest action, the activists want to ensure that Ravensburg sets a good example when it comes to climate protection.

However, the city emphasized that this was already happening and referred to several initiatives - for example in local public transport.

The tree occupiers have to expect fines because of the action.
