Rio de Janeiro (AP) - The Brazilian Rafinha does not seem to rule out a return to FC Schalke 04.

"He has great affection for the club," said a Rafinhas spokesman for the German press agency, but also referred to the current employment relationship of the 35-year-old professional footballer.

"He has an ongoing contract with Olympiacos and that would look bad if he said whether he would accept or not," the spokesman said on Friday.

According to media reports, Rafinha should be a candidate for the ailing right-wing defense at Schalke.

Rafinha's contract with Olympiakos is reported to run until 2022, but it should include a release clause.

The Brazilian played for the Revierclub between 2005 and 2010 and won the triple with FC Bayern in 2013 and the Brazilian championship and the Copa Libertadores with Flamengo Rio de Janeiro in 2019.

However, the first signals from Gelsenkirchen do not indicate a further return campaign.

According to the spokesman, there was no official contact from Schalke or discussions.

Schalke had previously brought back Sead Kolasinac.

There is also speculation about a comeback of Klaas-Jan Huntelaar at his old place of work.
