Offenburg (dpa) - Because he disarmed four police officers in the summer and then is said to have been in hiding for days with their service weapons in the Black Forest, a 32-year-old is on trial from today.

Yves R., who has become known as the “Ranger von Oppenau”, is charged with taking hostages and dangerous bodily harm before the Offenburg regional court.

He faces up to 15 years imprisonment for being held hostage alone.

Initially, six days of negotiations are scheduled.

A judgment could fall on February 19 (Az: 2 KLs 504 Js 11227/20).

R. is said to have forced four police officers to lay down their weapons on July 12th last year while checking a garden shed that he was illegally using in the small Black Forest town of Oppenau.

With the service weapons he managed to escape.

A large contingent of the police searched for days in the area for the man who has a criminal record for assault, among other things.

R. was placed near Oppenau on July 17, 2020.

According to the public prosecutor, R. has not commented on the allegations since his arrest.

On Friday he will be given the opportunity to comment in court.

In addition, witnesses have been summoned to provide information about the arrest.
