Sauerlach (dpa / lby) - The roof structure of the old town hall in Sauerlach (Munich district) burned down.

"A resident of the apartment on the top floor is still missing," said Thilo Hoffmann from the district fire inspection on Friday morning.

"The worst is to be feared."

No other people were in the building.

Around 130 emergency services from the fire brigade, police and technical relief organization had been on duty since the early morning.

"When we arrived, the whole roof structure was already on fire," said Hoffmann.

The emergency services were able to prevent the fire from spreading to the new town hall and save important files from the registry office on the ground floor.

"Unfortunately the wooden beam ceiling collapsed over the first floor," reported the district fire supervisor. "The beautiful, existing building is badly damaged." In the morning the last embers are to be extinguished and an emergency roof is to be erected over the building. How the fire came about and how great the damage is was initially unclear.
