Munich (dpa / lby) - According to reports of delivery problems with the corona vaccine from Pfizer, the planned second vaccinations for people in Bavaria are not at risk, according to the Ministry of Health.

It was unclear on Friday how the first vaccinations would continue.

Bavaria currently has a reserve of around 100,000 corona vaccine doses, said a ministry spokesman.

In addition, the Free State will be supplied with a further 107,000 doses of vaccine on January 18.

"This means that the second vaccination can be carried out on all people who have been vaccinated in the Free State so far and proper protection is guaranteed."

The vaccination appointments agreed this weekend could take place across Bavaria.

The ministry spokesman emphasized that the continuation of the initial vaccinations could only be "decided after further information from the federal government about reliable delivery to the federal states".

"The key is that the federal government and the EU Commission, as contractual partners, advocate a reliable guarantee of vaccine supply and the fastest possible compensation for possible delivery failures."

In any case, the Bavarian Ministry of Health will ensure that every second vaccination will continue to be guaranteed in the Free State in the future and is calling on the federal government to “ensure that the contractually guaranteed vaccine deliveries can be planned”.

The Federal Ministry of Health had previously announced that the pharmaceutical company Pfizer would not be able to deliver the amount of corona vaccine already promised in the next three to four weeks.

This was communicated to the EU Commission and through it to the EU member states at short notice.

The weekly delivery planned for Germany on Monday was carried out as planned.

The reason for the delivery problems are therefore renovations at the Pfizer plant in Puurs, Belgium.

According to the company, these were used to increase capacities from mid-February.

All countries in the world except the USA are supplied from Puurs.

"The health ministers of the federal and state levels take note of this very short-term and unexpected communication from the Commission and Pfizer with regret," the statement said.

It was initially unclear on Friday how large the quantities of vaccine are that will not be available for the time being.
