Saarbrücken (dpa / lrs) - The renewed search for a suspected murder victim from 30 years ago in a forest near Wadgassen (Saarlouis district) has so far been unsuccessful.

A spokesman for the Saarbrücken public prosecutor's office announced on Friday that it “did not lead to the discovery of evidence.

The measures are not yet complete.

The police are hoping to find the remains of a man from Völklingen who has been missing and probably killed since September 1991.

The search began in the late summer of 2020 after new clues emerged in the course of investigations.

The focus was on three men who are suspected of killing the man in the forest and burying the body there.

One of the three Germans who came into custody was found dead in his cell on Tuesday.

The authorities assumed a suicide.

According to the court, the trial for joint murder against the other two defendants is due to begin as planned at the Saarbrücken regional court in early February, despite the death.
