Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - In the dispute over compulsory vaccinations for nursing staff, Baden-Württemberg's Minister of Health, Manne Lucha, has fought off an attempt by the Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU).

"I would recommend Mr. Söder just a two-week retreat in a Bavarian silent monastery," said the Green politician in an interview with the "Badische Zeitung" (Friday).

Söder had started a debate about the compulsory vaccination for nurses in homes and demanded that the ethics council should deal with it.

In a position paper in November, the latter rejected a general vaccination requirement for ethical reasons.

However, the committee had also stated that under certain circumstances an “area-specific vaccination requirement” could be considered.

The debate about compulsory vaccination is at the moment a debate of uncertainty, said Lucha.

“We have received feedback that around 60 percent of the nursing staff in our country want to be vaccinated, in contrast to other countries where it is only 30 percent.

That is not enough, but it is a base. "

Lucha rejects an FFP2 mask requirement announced for Bavaria in local transport and retail.

"I wouldn't recommend such a duty as of today," he said.

"FFP2 and KN95 masks are actually only intended for the medical sector, for hygiene protection there are everyday masks."

Such a measure has not been planned in other federal states either.

From a scientific point of view, it makes more sense, and here, too, the experts don't quite agree.

In contrast to simple mouth and nose protection, these masks can also protect the wearer from infection, while simple fabric masks are primarily used to protect others from potentially infectious droplets of the mouthguard wearer.
