Hanover (dpa / lni) - Lower Saxony, like other federal states, will receive fewer vaccines from the manufacturers Biontech and Pfizer than announced in the coming weeks.

The Ministry of Health announced in Hanover on Friday.

"This is a real blow to the office," said Health Minister Carola Reimann (SPD).

The reason given for the delivery problems was changes in the production process at a Pfizer plant.

The delivery of around 68,000 vaccine doses, which is expected for January 19, is not affected and should arrive as planned.

“It is expected that the follow-up deliveries will be smaller in the next few weeks,” said the minister.

The same applies to the state of Bremen, as the spokesman for the health department, Lukas Fuhrmann, said.

Reimann pointed out that the around 60,000 vaccination doses originally announced for Lower Saxony are not enough to quickly vaccinate all people with the highest priority in Lower Saxony who are entitled to vaccinate.

Now it could take even longer.

The stability of deliveries must improve as quickly as possible.

Any last-minute change in the amount of vaccine would affect delivery schedules, creating disappointment for those waiting to be vaccinated and uncertainty in the communities that operate the vaccination centers.
