Las Vegas (dpa) - The world-famous amusement mile of Las Vegas, on which huge casinos and luxury hotels are lined up, says goodbye to "Siegfried & Roy" magician Siegfried Fischbacher.

Several hotels along the Las Vegas Strip remembered the star magician from Germany with large illuminated signs on Friday night.

Born in Rosenheim, he died on Wednesday at the age of 81 as a result of serious cancer.

"The death of Siegfried Fischbacher marks the end of an era", announced the Las Vegas-based hotel operator MGM Resorts.

We are grateful for the importance of the duo for “Las Vegas and the world of entertainment”.

Mayor Carolyn Goodman wrote on Twitter on Thursday: «Anyone who came to town always wanted:" I have to see Siegfried and Roy! "».

Goodman said goodbye with the words: "You are loved, dear Siegfried."

For years, "Siegfried & Roy" performed in Las Vegas with white tigers and lions in front of millions of viewers.

The duo's career ended in 2003 when a Tiger seriously injured Roy Horn during a performance.

Horn finally died of Covid-19 a few months ago.
