January 15, 2021 The case of four doses of vaccine thrown away in South Tyrol because the employees of a nursing home, who initially booked, changed their minds and no longer got vaccinated.

The vial was now thawed.

"Unfortunately, it is true, in such a short time it was not possible to find a remedy," Florian Zerzer, general manager of the health authority, told ANSA, underlining that it is a structure that is not part of the ASL.

After a somewhat slow start and the controversy over the high percentage of health 'objectors', "fortunately, the number of employees of the health company willing to be vaccinated is now growing", Zerzer emphasizes.

"In the rest of the world there are those who would kill to get a dose of vaccine before the others. Here in South Tyrol, on the other hand, health workers refuse vaccines. In Bolzano we are under 60% of vaccinated personnel, in the valleys well below 50% . Vaccines left over by staff who do not show up for appeals are safely thrown into the garbage. "

This was stated by the provincial councilor of Alto Adige Autonomia Carlo Vettori.

"Completely useless - he continues - the appeals of my majority colleagues to sensitize health personnel seem to be: it's time to put away the carrot and use the stick. Those who refuse the vaccine have the courage to put their face on it: the names are immediately online of those who have refused and will refuse the vaccine ".

"I find it really humiliating that the whole South Tyrolean health system should be remembered for refusing vaccinations, rather than being kept in history as a system made up of doctors, nurses and operators who have faced the pandemic working day and night to help patients affected by this terrible Covid ", concludes the provincial councilor.
