Potsdam (dpa / bb) - Brandenburg's Prime Minister Dietmar Woidke (SPD) has requested a special session of the state parliament after the federal-state conference on possible stricter corona restrictions.

"The heads of government of the federal states will discuss the next steps to contain the corona pandemic together with the Federal Chancellor on January 19, 2021," said the letter to the President of the State Parliament, Ulrike Liedtke, on Friday.

He therefore requested a special session after this conference to inform Parliament of the results.

The government has an obligation to inform the state parliament about corona measures.

A conference between Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) and the heads of state of the federal states is planned for this Tuesday at 2 p.m. Originally the next federal-state switch was not scheduled for January 25th. The background is a discussion about additional restrictions in view of the continued high number of new corona infections. The already tightened lockdown is initially planned until January 31. It will also deal with a more contagious virus mutation that had appeared in the UK.
