Mörfelden-Walldorf (dpa) - After the power struggle with the Lufthansa Group, the flight attendant union UFO plunged into a severe leadership crisis.

With the chairman Daniel Flohr and Louisa Callenberg, two of the three incumbent board members announced their resignation on January 31st, according to a letter on the union's homepage.

The two thus preceded requests for voting that had been announced by the union's advisory board for a general meeting on February 11th.

Flohr confirmed his resignation on Friday in an interview with the German Press Agency.

One more person will now be appointed to the board so that the leadership can continue to function and initiate new elections.

With the Germanwings flight attendant Anja Bronstert, only one member of the originally seven-member union board has been determined.

The elections had only taken place in February last year.

Flohr is considered a close confidante and companion of the former chairman Nicoley Baublies.

Together, the duo determined the corona negotiations with Lufthansa and concluded the cornerstones of a restructuring collective bargaining agreement that protects the around 22,000 flight attendants of the Lufthansa core company from redundancies until the end of 2023.

They could not prevent the closure of the Germanwings and SunExpress Deutschland flight operations.

Before the Corona crisis, after several strikes, Lufthansa questioned the tariff eligibility of the UFO and questioned the authority of the then board of directors.
