Gotland has been commissioned by the government to take the lead in the rest of the country in the transition to a sustainable energy system.

This at the same time as the county is the most eagle-dense in Sweden, the county administrative board writes in a press release.

- On Gotland, the eagle district is almost edge to edge.

Wind turbines must not be built too close to eagle nests, within important flight paths for eagles or where there is a rich bird life in general.

The conditions for an expansion of wind power on Gotland are therefore fraught with special regional challenges, says Mimmi Skog, nature conservation officer at the county administrative board, in the press release.

The authority has now produced a proposal for a new strategy in this area. The proposal will now be submitted for consultation to a number of bodies. The answers must have been received by March 29 and the completed strategy is expected to be ready in June this year.
