Auckland (AP) - The Club World Championship must take place without FC Auckland City.

The New Zealanders canceled their participation in the tournament from February 1st to 11th in Qatar.

The world football association FIFA and Auckland City announced on Friday.

The reason for this is the quarantine regulations in New Zealand due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The cancellation will not change the format, FIFA assured.

As a winner of the Champions League, FC Bayern Munich will only enter the semi-finals on February 8th.

The final will take place on February 11th.

Auckland had been nominated by the executive committee of the responsible association OFC for the Club World Cup as a representative of Oceania.

The Champions League there could not be played to the end due to the pandemic last season.

It would have been the club's tenth participation in the World Cup.

To start off, Auckland should play host al-Duhail SC in the first round on February 1.

"Since the isolation and quarantine regulations of the New Zealand authorities are outside the control of FIFA, no solution has been found in the last few days, despite regular discussions between FIFA, the club, the New Zealand Football Association and the OFC," said FIFA.
