Kiel (dpa / lno) - Schleswig-Holstein's Labor Minister Bernd Buchholz (FDP) has appealed to companies in the state to continue to take care of training during the corona pandemic.

It should not happen that after the end of the pandemic a shortage of skilled workers would hamper the upswing, said the minister on Friday.

According to the North Regional Head of the Federal Employment Agency, Margit Haupt-Koopmann, there were up to 20,000 more unemployed people last year. On average in 2020, 92 100 people were registered as unemployed. That was 12,500 unemployed or 15.6 percent more than in 2019. "Thanks to short-time working, the Schleswig-Holstein labor market has survived the corona crisis relatively lightly so far," she said. At the peak in April 20,900 companies with 154,300 employees were on short-time work.
