Bayreuth (dpa / lby) - The long-time boss of the Bayreuth brewery Gebrüder Maisel is dead. Oscar Maisel died at the age of 90, as the family business confirmed on Friday.

Several media reported his death on January 9th.

A few years after the war, Oscar Maisel and his brother Hans expanded the brewery into a company with an international reputation.

“Oscar Maisel knew crystal clear wheat beer from his student days in Weihenstephan and loved this brew,” says the brewery's website.

The brothers decided to brew a yeast-free wheat beer themselves.

The brewery made a name for itself beyond Germany with its “champagne wheat”.

Oscar Maisel ran the brewery for 45 years.

"He could be found in his brewery every day until the first lockdown in March 2020," emphasized the company in an obituary.

His son Jeff is now the managing director and his daughter lives in America.
