Greifswald / Schwerin (dpa / mv) - The corona vaccine from the US manufacturer Moderna has been used in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania since Thursday.

In the vaccination center in Greifswald, the vaccine has been given since the morning, said a spokesman for the Vorpommern-Greifswald district of the German press agency.

The first delivery with which 300 people could be vaccinated will be used up by the beginning of next week.

According to a city spokeswoman, Moderna will be administered for the first time this Friday in the municipal vaccination center in Schwerin.

Both centers have each received 600 doses of vaccine, of which 300 doses will initially be injected.

Health Minister Harry Glawe (CDU) said the other half of the delivery will be for the second syringe four weeks after the first.

Two vaccinations are necessary for immunization.

The minister initially expects 1200 Moderna vaccination doses per week for MV in addition to the approximately 10,000 vaccination doses from Biontech-Pfizer.

The preparation from Moderna is the second corona vaccine approved in the European Union, alongside the product from the manufacturers Biontech and Pfizer.

Both are so-called mRNA vaccines.
