Magdeburg (dpa / sa) - Within a few minutes, a wintry thunderstorm put a muddy blanket of snow over Saxony-Anhalt on Wednesday evening - and caused several accidents.

The police reported on Thursday, among other things, smoothness accidents from the highways 9 and 38 and several federal and state roads.

In the district of Wittenberg, for example, a 41-year-old driver got off the slippery federal highway 100 in the evening and crashed his car into the guard rail and then into a tree.

Rescue workers took him to hospital, seriously injured.

In the same district, a 34-year-old car driver skidded on the slippery road on highway 123, also got off the road in his car and rolled over.

The man and his passenger were taken to hospital with minor injuries.

While driving on Autobahn 9, an ice floe came off the roof of a truck and destroyed the exterior mirror of another car.

There were also accidents on federal road 101 and autobahn 38 as a result of the heavy snowfall, and according to the police there were sheet metal damage.
