The construction cleaning is complete and plastic beds are lined up waiting for new covid patients.

Because even if the number of people cared for now decreases, planning is needed.

- We follow this closely, says David Sparv who is the chief nurse and responsible for the escalation plan that Skåne University Hospital, SUS, has developed.

500 new care places

In Malmö, Lund and Ystad, close to 500 new care places have been opened.

Chief physician Sven Karlsson is impressed with how quickly it has been possible to develop the latest premises in Lund.

- I remember how we looked at the drawings just before Christmas and set up the guidelines so it exceeds my expectations now that I see it, he says.

When the regular care places have not been enough for all patients during the corona pandemic, Region Skåne has rebuilt or adapted its existing premises to new care places.

It can be about reception rooms, wards that have been redone and in some cases there have been dining rooms.

- In a few isolated cases, we have created care places for non-covid patients in canteens, but these are exceptional cases, says David Sparv
