Musician Hani Muhanna sparked controversy in political and cultural circles, after he gave his own account of the circumstances of his meeting with the two sons of the former Egyptian President, Hosni Mubarak, Gamal and Alaa, and about the luxurious living conditions in which they were in Mazraat Tora prison, during their imprisonment in 2014, while a source denied Close to the Egyptian Prisons Authority, the validity of what was mentioned in Muhanna’s speech, reactions in support and opposition continued to his speech.

He said in an interview for the program “Prepositions” by Yusef al-Husseini, that “Originally I had no intimate relationship with Hosni Mubarak, unlike Ammar al-Shari’i, while I had a close relationship with Anwar Sadat, because he was a true artist and he loved singing, and I sat with him several times with me. He is sitting on the ground, and hums to Farid Al-Atrash. ”

"The artist leader usually has a certain frame, and Sadat, despite the pressures that was around him, used to shake it off with art," he said.

"As for Gamal and Alaa Mubarak, I started my relationship with them in the Tora Farm prison in 2014, and I also met in him, the former Minister of Interior, Habib Al-Adly, and a group of officials from the Mubarak regime, and we were staying in two buildings that could accommodate 3000 inmates," Muhanna went on.

He continued, “I entered and found Hisham Talaat Mustafa who had built a large mosque in the caravan in the prison, and Ahmed Ezz built a gym, spa, ping pong tables and billiards.” He added, “At first I was troubled, because when I went to court I was wearing a suit, and I did not imagine that a verdict would be issued. Against me, and when I entered I wore blue, and Alaa brought me a TV, and Jamal brought me a refrigerator, and we were playing football together. Me and Alaa are a team, Jamal is a team, and Habib Al-Adli, the referee, and when I knew them more closely, I felt that they were unjust, and that they were very polite, to the extent that I I told them: Is it because you are the sons of a president of a republic that you have this degree of literature that can be taught?

All the time, they addressed me in terms (O artist), (Your Honor) and (Yavandam). ”I was bold with them and told them that I had observations and criticisms of the father’s policies, which astonished everyone, namely that he did not like art, and that he canceled the art festival.

He continued, "Alaa and Gamal attended after leaving the wedding of his daughter Hanadi, and they stayed at the wedding for three hours."

Reactions

Muhanna's dialogue sparked widespread reactions on Egyptian websites and on social networks, criticizing comments on the lavish treatment Gamal and Alaa received in prison, and distinguishing them from other prisoners.

Meanwhile, the human rights activist, Ahmadinejad al-Burai, defended this treatment, and said in several tweets: “The pretrial prisoner is innocent, and he has the right to make his cell a five-star room that includes a TV, heater and everything.”

For his part, the former head of the Prisons Authority, Major General Ali Najeeb, denied the authenticity of Muhanna’s words. He said in a comment quoted by the BBC on his Facebook page: “I contacted prison officials during that period, and they denied that what he said was right.

In fact, Ahmed Ezz requested to use gym equipment, but did not agree to his request, and used cement boxes as exercise equipment.

Hisham Talaat was Alaa’s friend, and he was the one who was ordered to introduce fine food to him during Mubarak’s rule.

In turn, Muhanna said in response to his interview, "His daughter called him from Lebanon and told him that there was an insult to her after he spoke about the time he spent in prison with Alaa and Gamal Mubarak."

Muhanna added in media statements, "I spoke about Gamal and Alaa with goodness, and I respect them. They are highly educated, and the sons of the President of Egypt have been for 30 years, and it is not permissible to insult them."
