Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - At the end of the year, numerous young people in the south-west decided to train in a craft.
For the whole of 2020, the Handwerkstag recorded 18,666 new contracts, as it announced on Thursday.
That is still 2.5 percent less than in the previous year.
However, many companies were able to make up for the backlog that had built up as a result of the temporary corona standstill in the final quarter.
In the summer the minus was still in double digits, at the official start of the training year in autumn it was around seven percent.
Because many classic offers for professional orientation were no longer available due to Corona, digital options have been relied heavily on, it said. The specially introduced alternative training start next February, however, does not play a major role for the trades.
