Athletic Bilbao qualified for the Spanish Super Cup final, after their 2-1 victory over defending champions Real Madrid on Thursday in the semi-final of the competition.
The match was marked by club and excitement throughout its two halves, as its result remained suspended until the last moments, to be decided by Bilbao at the end, setting a date next Sunday in the final against Barcelona, who rose to the same role
by beating Real Sociedad on penalties Wednesday.
The first half ended with Bilbao advancing with two goals, bearing the signature of its star, Raul Garcia, in the 18th and 38th minutes, from a penalty kick, while French star Karim Benzema scored the only Real Madrid goal in the 73rd minute.
With this result, Bilbao avenged a 3-1 defeat by Real in their last La Liga meeting last December.
