Bonn (dpa) - Because of prohibited price and discount agreements, the Federal Cartel Office has imposed fines in the millions against the two leading manufacturers of manhole covers in Germany.

Overall, the street sewer casting manufacturers MeierGuss Sales & Logistics GmbH & Co. KG and Hydrotec Technologies AG and those responsible are expected to pay around six million euros, as the competition authority announced on Thursday in Bonn.

"The violations could be detected with the help of the anonymous whistleblower system of the Federal Cartel Office", emphasized the Cartel Office President Andreas Mundt.

In 2018, the manufacturers agreed several increases in net prices and discounts for certain product groups at the expense of their customers.

In addition, in one case it was agreed to split two large orders.

All fines imposed are already legally binding, reported the Federal Cartel Office.

In the Hydrotec case, the proceedings were concluded by mutual agreement.

The company MeierGuss had also recognized the case as determined by the Federal Cartel Office - with the exception of the agreement on the division of two orders - and agreed to an amicable termination of the proceedings.
