Munich (dpa / lby) - In parts of the Bavarian Alps, there is currently the second highest avalanche warning level.

In the Allgäu, Ammergau and Werdenfels Alps, the danger above 1800 meters is great, the avalanche warning service announced on Wednesday evening in Munich.

In the rest of the Bavarian Alpine region, the risk is widespread and considerable.

"Activities in the mountains currently require the greatest caution and avalanche-related judgment," emphasized the experts.

The main problem in the west is the fresh snow.

"In all expositions it can spontaneously break away as a loose and slab avalanche, or it can easily be triggered as a slab avalanche even by a small additional load," it said.

Superficial avalanches could disturb deeper layers, especially in the danger areas mentioned, and lead to large avalanches above 1,800 meters.

In addition, the strong wind in the entire Bavarian Alpine region resulted in fresh snowdrift accumulations, which can be easily released by individual winter sports enthusiasts, especially near the ridge and in blown gullies and hollows.

Since the beginning of the week, up to one meter of snow has fallen at higher altitudes;

by Thursday noon, up to 60 more centimeters should be added.
