The incumbent US Vice President Mike Pence has officially rejected an immediate removal of President Donald Trump via an amendment to the constitution.

In a letter to the House of Representatives published Tuesday evening (local time), Pence said that such action, which he and several cabinet members should initiate, was not in the interests of the nation.

Based on the 25th Amendment to the Constitution, Pence could declare the President incapable of performing his duties with a majority of key cabinet members.

Senior Republican MP Liz Cheney previously announced that she would vote for Trump's impeachment in the House of Representatives.

Cheney released a statement on Tuesday evening (local time) announcing its approval of the Democrats' impeachment push.

"I will vote to remove the president from office," she said.

The president, who belongs to her own party, rounded up the “mob” that stormed the Capitol and triggered the attack.

"None of this would have happened without the president."

Before her, Republican MP John Katko was the first in his group to announce that he would vote for Trump's impeachment.

He also blamed Trump for the violent riots.
