After Donald Trump's supporters stormed the US Capitol, the House of Representatives opened another impeachment process against the elected president.

A majority of the Congress Chamber voted on Wednesday that Trump must answer in the Senate for "inciting riot".

The Republican majority leader in the Senate, Mitch McConnell, has rejected an emergency session of his chamber for impeachment proceedings against US President Donald Trump.

With the decision on Wednesday, he ensured a postponement of any further impeachment proceedings, most likely until after the swearing-in of President-elect Joe Biden.

A spokesman for McConnell said his advisors had told employees of Democratic minority leader Chuck Schumer that he would not agree to summon the senators for an emergency meeting.

It is almost certain that the Senate will not hold another session until January 19th.

A day later, Biden is introduced to the office.

After resigning from office, a president can no longer be convicted under the impeachment regulations, writes J. Michael Luttig, former judge at the

US Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit

, in a guest article for the Washington Post.
