Erfurt (dpa / th) - Thuringia has replaced Saxony as the federal state with the most new corona infections per 100,000 inhabitants within a week.

The Berlin Robert Koch Institute reported on Wednesday (as of midnight) a seven-day value of 324.2 new cases based on this population.

In Saxony, which ranked ahead of Thuringia for weeks, this value was around 304.4 infections on Wednesday.

Thuringia has around 2.1 million inhabitants.

The largest corona hotspot in Germany is the Saalfeld-Rudolstadt district in Thuringia.

According to the RKI, there have been around 600 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in the past seven days.

The district has 103,000 inhabitants.

The districts of Altenburger Land (473.2), Hildburghausen (454.1), Saale-Orla (449.5) and Unstrut-Hainich (414.7) are among the ten districts in Germany most severely affected by the corona pandemic this period.

A total of 1216 new infections and 59 further deaths in connection with a corona infection were reported in Thuringia from Tuesday to Wednesday.

This may also include late registrations because around the turn of the year corona cases were discovered, recorded and transmitted with a delay according to the RKI.
