Erfurt (dpa) - Thuringia has replaced Saxony as the federal state with the most new corona infections per 100,000 inhabitants within a week.

The Berlin Robert Koch Institute reported on Wednesday (as of midnight) a seven-day value of 324.2 new cases based on this population.

In Saxony, which ranked ahead of Thuringia for weeks, this value was around 304.4 infections on Wednesday.

Thuringia has around 2.1 million inhabitants.

The largest corona hotspot in Germany is the Saalfeld-Rudolstadt district in Thuringia.

According to the RKI, there were around 600 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in the past seven days.

The district has 103,000 inhabitants.
