The idea is that the connection between Helsingör and Helsingborg will consist of four tunnels - two for trains in each direction and two for car traffic.

The train tunnels will run between the central stations of each country, while the cars' tunnels will have their anchors south of the cities.

At a press conference with the region's political leadership, the chairman of the regional board Carl Johan Sonesson (M) and the Social Democrats' leading politician Henrik Fritzon spoke about the building plans.

The start will be 2024-2025 and by 2030 everything should be ready - that's how the top politicians want it.

Investigations are ongoing

A fixed link in the northern parts of the Sound, between Helsingborg and Helsingör, has been discussed for many years.

Two investigations are currently underway;

The Swedish and Danish governments will present a strategic analysis of a fixed link.

According to Carl Johan Sonesson, it will soon be ready.

In addition, the Swedish government has its own investigation which the Swedish Transport Administration is conducting and which deals with the possibility of building and the costs.

Nothing has been decided.

But Region Skåne wants the connection and is prepared to enter as a co-financier and co-owner of an HH connection.

- We are now starting discussions about it with each state, says Carl Johan Sonesson.

A larger labor market

Politicians say that it is not just about a connection but about the labor market.

Travel time between the two countries would be reduced.

- We thus see new growth opportunities in Denmark and southern Sweden, all the way up to Gothenburg, says Carl Johan Sonesson.

- There may be more jobs in the whole area.

thinks Henrik Fritzon.
